La Casera has been a very well-known brand in the Spanish market since the 50’s. It has a long and rich history and has become one of the most popular soft drinks amongst families in the last decades. In fact, La Casera has become an icon and The brand for gaseosa (soda) in Spain, being the brand that created this category in this country. Presently La Casera is the undisputed leader in the gaseosa segment which represents the third biggest category of the Spanish soft drink market, competing directly with colas and citrus soft drinks. Nowadays, La Casera is one of the 10 best-selling soft drink brands in Spain.

It was first introduced in 1949 as the first gaseosa brand with national distribution, since the myriad of existing bottlers could not even think to sell their brand outside their territory. The launch of the first La Casera was a great event: the traditional cork was substituted by a mechanical system with a porcelain cap that allowed exceptional carbonation preservation. Soon La Casera was produced and distributed in almost every province of Spain.

La Casera soon became a staple of Spaniards, who mixed it with red wine in their daily meals. In the 1960’s the brand’s golden years, it launched new flavours such as orange and lemon. In the 1980´s La Casera Cola was the fist caffeine free Cola in Spain, and new innovations such as PET and cans formats were introduced.

A 1989 study about the best-valued brands ranked La Casera the 4th brand in terms of awareness considering all sectors of the Spanish economy. The slogan “Si no hay Casera, nos vamos” (“If there is no Casera, we leave”) was even used during parliamentary debates in the Spanish Parliament. In 2000 it started to be exported to Italy where La Casera Cola Light is the only cola without sugar and without caffeine. In 2001 la Casera was acquired by Cadbury-Schweppes. 

Today the Spanish tradition of mixing wine with La Casera persists. During summer time, tinto de verano - consisting of a mix of La Casera and red wine served on the rocks with a slice of lemon - is widely consumed in street terraces. In 2008, La Casera launched a pre-mixed Tinto de verano which has already been a good success on the market.
